Dear Frater,
Of all the things that sold me on becoming a TKE at Western, “Sweetheart Weekend” was one of the greatest. I loved the concept that all my old buddies from college would have the opportunity to reunite, rekindle old friendships and have fun every year. Unfortunately “Sweetheart” was always better in concept than it ever was in practice and now it no longer exists.
Over the years I’ve been involved with many TKE get-togethers and reunions. Some were huge, some were small but none have had any real sustainability. And almost always the number of brothers showing up was disappointing. So rather than bitch about it, I’m taking action. Last year I hosted our 50th birthday on April 4th. Turnout was good and people seemed to really enjoy themselves so…I’m going to try to build on that. I think we should meet EVERY year to celebrate another year of Zeta Omicron and reunite and rekindle…
Unfortunately in 2010 April 4 is on a Sunday and it is Easter Sunday. No good so I’m looking at April 24th. April is our birthday month and it’s a good time of year to get together. School is still in, people aren’t vacationing and the weather makes everyone eager to get out and do something. SO I plan to host what I hope will become an annual event every April. I hope to make a weekend out of it with our “Wine Down” Friday night as people arrive, scheduled activities Sat. afternoon like a golf outing, a shopping outing (for the ladies) and (if I can talk Scott Christian into leading it) a fishing outing. Saturday night we will have a big party at Owl’s Eye Winery and Sunday (if we wish) an old style brother’s meeting and maybe even brunch.
I’m open to suggestions and your thoughts. I SINCERELY HOPE I CAN COUNT ON YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT! One of the strongest lessons I ever learned from TKE was teamwork. It was always amazing what we could accomplish when we all came together as a team.
